The History Of Mud

Throughout history there are well know references to the therapeutic effect of mud. The romans stated that the mud was good for the treatment of arthritis, eczema, muscular pain, rheumatism, psoriasis and also to relieve tension, aid relaxation and develop smooth silky skin. Pure mud can be detoxifying, remineralizing, hormonally balancing and anti-inflammatory.

The Mar Menor mud

The Mar Mernor is unique due to its high concentration of salts and minerals. This high salt content is the result of the high evaporation due to the extreme heat and  the wind. The Mar Menor gets its water from the Mediterranean sea though the natural channels called Golas. The ionic concentration of magnesium, calcium, sodium, iodine and fluoride are higher the the the amount found in the Mediterranean sea. Different studies reveal that mud  treatment has health benefits and healing properties for physical ailments.

The area known as Las Charcas in Lo Pagan is the  most famous. In this area you find bathing station, specifically constructed for mud bathing. Las Charcas is located within the Parque Natural de Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro, and is separated from the Mar Menor by a narrow strip of land is paved and also offers a bike lane.
