New passenger record for Alicante Airport
For the third month in a row, Alicante Airport sets passenger record. In June 1,043.000 passenger came through the airport, which is an increase of 4,6 % compared to last year. 90% of the passengers are foreigners. Though only 10% of the traffic came of domestic flights, it is still an increase of 13,4% of domestic passengers.
United Kingdom stands for almost half of all passengers with the 463,071 travelers. Germany comes in second with 77,889 passengers and Norway third with 68,125 passengers.
Even though the domestic flights are increasing, Iberia is now closing their flights between Alicante and Madrid. Since high-speed trains (AVE) opened between Alicante and Madrid, the trains are now transporting more passengers than the airline companies. This leaves lighter competition for Air Nostrum and Air Europa, who still offers flights from Alicante to the capital of Spain.
