Airport battle continues

Airport battle continues

Airport battle continues. Ryanair has put pressure on the Alicante Airport. The lowfare airline company, has closed 6 routes this year from Alicante. This has caused 1.5 million less passangers this year. The reason for Ryanair doing this, is due to a discussion Ryanair and Alicante Airport have had for a while. Before opening the new airport in Alicante, all passangers from Ryanair flights, was walking from the terminal building and into the airplanes, using stairs from the tarmac. In both ends of the flight. After opening the new airport, it has been demanded to use the “fingers” as much as possible. That means that it takes longer time to board the flights, as the passengers only can enter the flight from one end.

Statistics from AENA (the administrator of almost all airports in Spain), shows that Ryanair actually have more people walking onboard the flights in both ends today, then when the old airport was used. Ryanair has now offered Alicante Airport to set in two now routes from Alicante in 2013, if the passangers can board the flights “the Ryanair way”. The offer from Ryanair runs out today, 15th November 2012….

At the same time, another airport battle continues. In the south of the Valencia Region, Alicante Airport is without a doubt the biggest and strongest airport.

Airport battle continues in Murcia as well

In the region of Murcia, an existing airport is struggling not to be forced to close, while a new build airport is tempting all major lowfare airline companies. San Javier Airport, which is managed by AENA, says that after have invested 70 million Euro, San Javier Airport is not ready to close. On the other hand, Corvera Airport is very close to be finished. Corvera has yet to receive the permissions for operating as an airport.

The culture and tourist minister, Pedro Alberto Cruz, in Murcia is sure that Corvera Airport will open in the spring of 2013. From the opening of Corvera Airport, it is expected that San Javier Airport will close 2-6 months later.

At the same time as Ryanair has put on pressure on Alicante Airport, Corvera Airport has invited Ryanair to use the facilities of their new airport. Ryanair has furthermore not made any effort to hide this offer from Corvera Airport.

Mediter Real Estate will keep informing about how the airport battle continues on the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida.
