Where is Lo Romero Golf?
Lo Romero Golf sits inland from the coast in the municipality of Pilar de la Horadada, the southernmost town in Alicante province. The course address is on the Orihuela road at kilometre 29, which gives you an idea of the setting: farmland, pine and carob trees, and open sky.
Pilar de la Horadada town is about five kilometres away, so a short drive for supermarkets, banks, the weekly market and the health centre. The nearest beaches are roughly seven kilometres east.
It is a well-connected spot despite feeling rural. The course lies close to Costa Blanca beaches, the Mar Menor and the cities of Alicante and Murcia, with motorway access in both directions.
What is the golf course at Lo Romero like?
Lo Romero is an 18-hole, par 72 course. It was designed by Jorge Gallén and Enric Soler, and inaugurated in 2008. From the white and yellow tees it measures around six kilometres, and a little less from the blue and red tees.
The character is parkland, laid out in a natural basin with the existing landscape left largely intact. Aleppo pines, carob trees, low scrub, palms and a great deal of wild rosemary (romero, hence the name) grow around the holes. Players often describe the front nine as generous and the back nine as tighter and more demanding.
The finish is what people remember. The 18th is a par 4 of 356 metres from the yellow tees, played from an elevated tee down to an island green, with a lake around it that demands an accurate approach. The green is almost surrounded by water. That hole is why the club is nicknamed the golf island.
Facilities and practice
There is a golf academy for beginners and improvers, plus practice facilities that include natural grass platforms and covered bays for the long game, practice bunkers, chipping greens and putting greens. The clubhouse restaurant serves breakfasts, lunches, tapas and drinks, with a covered terrace looking over the 18th.
Be realistic about scale: this is a friendly working golf club, not a grand country club. Reviewers consistently praise the condition of the course and the staff, while noting the clubhouse buildings themselves are modest. The course is open to the public, so visitors and guests can play.
What is it like to live at Lo Romero Golf?
Quiet. That is the honest headline. Lo Romero is not a resort with its own shopping street or nightlife, so daily life means a short drive into Pilar de la Horadada or down to the coast.
What you get in return is space, light and views. Homes here are mainly detached villas on their own plots, with private pools and few neighbours overlooking you. Winter is the busy season, when golfers arrive and the practice range fills up in the mornings.
A car is essential. If you want to walk to a bakery or a bar, look at the coastal areas or at Pinar de Campoverde instead. If you want peace, a pool and a tee time ten minutes from your front door, this suits very well.
How much does property cost at Lo Romero Golf?
At the time of writing (September 2026), prices in our own listings at Lo Romero Golf look like this:
- Apartments: from around €285,000, with typical asking prices near €330,000.
- Detached villas: mostly between about €400,000 and €600,000, with a typical figure around €480,000.
- Top of the market: the largest new villas reach roughly €670,000.
Most of what sells here is new build: close to nine in ten of our homes at Lo Romero are new or off-plan. Around 95% have a pool, private or shared. Three bedrooms is the norm, and a typical build size is about 112 square metres, plus terraces, solarium and garden.
On buying costs, a resale purchase in the Valencian Community carries 9% transfer tax (ITP), rising to 11% on the part above €1 million from 1 June 2026. A new build carries 10% IVA plus 1.4% stamp duty (AJD). Community fees vary from one development to the next here, so always ask for the figure on the specific home.
How far is Lo Romero Golf from the beach and the airport?
The nearest sand is about seven kilometres away, so 10 to 15 minutes by car. Mil Palmeras and the small harbour at Torre de la Horadada are the usual choices, with Las Higuericas a little further along the same stretch.
For flights, Región de Murcia airport (RMU, Corvera) is the closer of the two: allow around 30 minutes by road. Alicante-Elche (ALC) is bigger and busier, at roughly 45 to 55 minutes depending on traffic.
Golfers are spoilt. Besides Lo Romero itself, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club is about 15 minutes away, and Las Ramblas, Campoamor and Villamartín are all within a short drive. Five courses inside 20 minutes is rare anywhere in Europe.
Who buys at Lo Romero Golf, and does it rent well?
Buyers here are usually golfers, or couples who want a modern villa with a pool and do not want to pay coastal prices for it. We see British, Scandinavian, Belgian, Dutch, German and Polish buyers, some retiring, many using the house for long winter stays.
For letting, the golf calendar helps. Demand is strongest from autumn to spring, when golf groups and northern European visitors look for a villa with a pool near a good course. Summer works too, though beachside apartments will always let more easily in July and August.
If you are weighing Lo Romero against a coastal option, come and see both on the same day: the difference in feel is obvious within five minutes. Our office is in Cabo Roig, so call in or browse the homes listed above and we will happily talk it through.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lo Romero Golf a gated resort?
No, it is an open golf area rather than one gated resort. Individual developments may have their own gates, private roads and shared pools, so check the arrangement for each home.
Can I walk to the clubhouse from the houses?
From some homes, yes, depending which development you choose. Others are a few minutes by car or buggy, so ask us about the exact distance before you commit.
Do I have to play golf to live here?
Not at all. Plenty of owners never pick up a club and simply like the quiet, the open views and the easy drive to the beach and the town.
Is there a bus service?
Public transport in this rural part of Pilar de la Horadada is limited, so plan on having a car for shopping, medical appointments and airport runs.
Are the new build villas ready to move into?
Some are finished and some are sold off-plan with a build period, usually a matter of months. We will tell you the stage and expected completion date for each property.
How does Lo Romero compare on price with coastal areas nearby?
You generally get more plot, more build and a private pool for the same money than you would within walking distance of the sea. The trade-off is that you drive to the beach.
